‘Realised I'm not in Maldives’ – Dinesh Karthik reacts after Chris Lynn pokes fun at him over vaccination post
Karthik and Lynn had played for KKR together in the 2018 and 2019 IPL.
On Tuesday, May 11, Dinesh Karthik, the veteran Indian batsman, received his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination. Even as the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic has wreaked havoc, a number of cricketers, including Smriti Mandhana, and Virat Kohli among others have taken the vaccine.
The death tolls and infected cases have gone up at an alarming rate in the grave global scenario. In the meantime, Chris Lynn, the Australian cricketer, poked fun at Karthik. The latter was a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders bio-security bubble where the first case of COVID-19 was reported in the Indian Premier League.
As many as four cricketers- Varun Chakravarthy, Sandeep Warrier, Tim Seifert and Prasidh Krishna- from KKR tested positive for the novel coronavirus. On Tuesday, Karthik shared a picture where he was taking the vaccine.

“Could have at least worn pants,” Lynn, who’s a part of the Mumbai Indians, said in his tweet. Karthik also had a hilarious reply in store. “I was thinking shorts like you, then realised I’m not in Maldives. So wore this.” It’s pertinent to note that Lynn was a part of the Knights and played alongside Karthik in the 2018 and 2019 edition of the IPL.
Lynn hasn’t had much luck while playing for the Rohit Sharma-led team. After being bought in the auction for the 2020 edition, he didn’t get to play a single match that season. In 2021, he got his first chance in the opening match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. He scored in the 40s and impressed one and all.
However, once Quinton de Kock finished his quarantine period after the home series against Pakistan, Lynn had to sit out. As far as Karthik was concerned, after handing KKR’s captaincy to Eoin Morgan, he had a chance to focus solely on his keeping and batting prowess.
In seven games, Karthik managed 123 runs at an average and strike rate of 30.75 and 138.20 respectively. On May 4, the Board of Control for Cricket in India pulled the plug on the 2021 IPL after a series of COVID-19 cases surfaced in the franchises.
