There is unique bonding between the players in a cricket team as they most of the time with each other. It is no less than a family which leaves them with giving nicknames to each other. However, Redditors have dug up some of the funniest epithets for the cricketers which are mostly given to them after a particular incident during their respective careers on the 22 yards.

It all began when a Reddit user stumbled upon James Anderson‘s mysterious nickname. He was named ‘Burnley Lara’ after his 81-run knock against India back in 2014. He had stitched a partnership of 198 runs with Joe Root for the last wicket which is still regarded as one of the best partnerships for England.

Kohli’s hilarious name

There is no doubt about anyone’s mind that Virat Kohli‘s bowling action is one of the funniest ever. He has been named as ‘Koach’ after Kemar Roach commented that he could his young self in Kohli’s bowling action.

“Koach for Kohli. Interesting how this came about: After Kohli bowled the last over in the t20 world cup semi-final against WI, bowling legend Kemar Roach commented that Kohli’s fiery off cutters reminded him of his young self. He even gifted Kohli the match with his signature. From that day on people have been equating Kohli to Roach, Kohli+Roach=Koach,” a Reddit user drassaultrifle had stated.

England’s Phil Tuffnel has been tagged as Phil ‘The Cat’ for his ability to be found sleeping in the dressing room every now and then. One of the best bowlers Windies has ever produced, Michael Holding was nicknamed as ‘Whispering Death’ for his quiet approach to the bowling crease.

Apart from them, there were a few more cricketers who got funny names like Hairy Nipples for New Zealand’s Henry Nicholls, Afghanistan for Mark Waugh, Big Bird for Joe Garner, Jumbo Jet for Anil Kumble and Brigadier Block for Paul Collingwood.
