Rohit Sharma hit a brilliant century against England in the second Test of the four-match series. He brought up his hundred in 130 balls. This is his seventh ton in the longest format of the game. Rohit has shown a great performance since he started opening for India in Tests. This was his fourth hundred as an opener in Test cricket.

Rohit was eventually dismissed by Jack Leach at an individual score of 161 runs off 231 balls. He hit 18 fours and 2 sixes in his superb knock. Earlier in the day, India decided to bat first after winning the toss. India lost their opener, Shubman Gill, very early who got out for a 3-ball duck. Indian captain Virat Kohli too could not open his account as he was bamboozled by a wonderful delivery from Moeen Ali.

Let’s look at some important stats and numbers from Rohit Sharma’s magnificent century:

1 – Rohit became the first player to hit a century in all three formats against four different oppositions. These hundreds have come against England, South Africa, West Indies, and Sri Lanka.

2 – The dashing opener became only the second cricketer after Chris Gayle to hit tons against England in all three formats.

7 – Rohit Sharma has hit all his seven Test centuries at home. This is a unique record as far as Indian players are concerned. Apart from him, former Indian player Chandu Borde had scored all his 5 tons at home. In world cricket, Mominul Haque has hit most Test hundreds (10) at home without scoring any ton in away matches.

35 – Rohit hit his 35th International ton as an opener and surpassed Sunil Gavaskar. Among Indian openers with most International hundreds, Rohit is now at third spot after Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. This is his 40th International century and is currently placed at the fourth spot among Indians with the most International hundreds.

4 – In the first session of today’s play, Rohit Sharma hit 80 runs off 78 balls. Among Indian openers since 2006, only three players have scored more runs than Rohit in the opening session. Shikhar Dhawan is at the top spot in this record, who scored 104 runs off 88 balls against Afghanistan in 2018.

200 – The Indian opener completed his 200 sixes at home in International cricket. He is the first Indian player to do so. In world cricket, he is at fourth position in terms of hitting most sixes at home in International cricket.

4 – Rohit hit his fourth hundred in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC). He is at joint second-position among players with most centuries in WTC. Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne is currently at the number 1 position in this record.
