After beginning the tournament with over 300 teams from over 30 cities, the Red Bull Campus Cricket Nationals 2019 came to a culmination in Jaipur. DAV College from Chandigarh managed to win the final beating Hindustan College from Chennai. With this win, the DAV College will now head to the UAE in November to play this tournament at the International level.

There was a press conference just before the game where the guests for the day joined the two captains playing the finals. Rajasthan Royals’ coach Paddy Upton, Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana, Royals’ batting coach Amol Muzumdar, young sensation Riyan Parag and bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule joined the session and talked at length on how such tournaments help players grow.

The match began under some extreme weather conditions, with a dust storm postponing the start just after the toss. Batting first, Hindustan college lost one of their openers for a duck, but a brilliant partnership M Adityan and skipper Shahrukh Khan set the tone nicely for the side. Shahrukh Khan hit a 20-ball 30, which includes 2 fours and 2 sixes.

Adityan scored a half-century, but the pair fell in quick succession and there wasn’t much resistance from the lower order. Gurnoor Brar and Dev Yadav did a fantastic job with the ball, helping them restrict the opposition from Chennai to 108 runs in their 20 overs for the loss of nine wickets.

DAV clinch the title in the final over

Unlike Hindustan College, DAV got off to a horrendous start and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. No one from their top order registered double digits and it seemed like the Hindustan college was well on top. Half their side was back in the pavilion with a mountain to climb and just when they needed a big partnership, Tavleen and Abhinandan Bharadwaj chipped in with a one.

Tavleen scored 35 off 37 balls whilst Abhinandan registered a 27-ball 20, which helped them complete the run chase with four balls remaining. They took minimal risks in the final overs and kept ticking the scoreboard with singles. Smriti Mandhana and Riyan Parag gave away the winners’ trophy at the end with Paddy Upton presenting the player of the tournament award.

DAV’s captain Dev Yadav was named the “Best bowler of the tournament” whilst his teammate Akhil Yadav turned out to be the “Best batsman of the tournament”. Tamil Nadu’s skipper Shahrukh Khan was named the man of the tournament was his all-round effort.
