England’s left-arm seamer Reece Topley has been ruled out of the rest of the season after sustaining a fifth stress fracture of his back. He was recently the part of England Lions squad which played the One-Day tri-series against India A and Windies A. This is a huge blow for his County team Hampshire who had recently confirmed similar injuries to Mason Crane and Brad Wheal who will also miss the remainder of the season.

He was in excellent form with the ball in hand after registering his career-best figures of 4/16 for the Lions in the tri-series. However, Topley was left devastated after being left out of the playing XI of the domestic One-Day Cup final against Kent at the expense of Mason Crane who underwent an injection to be able to play.

Reece fed up of playing in pain

Earlier this week, Reece Topley was made aware of his injury having been diagnosed with the latest stress fracture and will undergo his first back operation soon.

“Reece was very happy with the way he bowled last week, he had a good rhythm and was bowling quickly. He played on Monday for the Lions and was almost going to go up to Old Trafford for England’s T20. But he ended up having a scan on Tuesday morning and at 11 am it was confirmed that he has a recurrence of the same stress fracture,” Topley’s father was quoted as saying by dailyecho.co.uk.

He further informed the reporters that his son is tired of playing in pain and will be seeking a surgeon’s appointment next week. “He’s devastated and fed up of playing in pain. The harsh reality is we have a surgeon’s appointment next Wednesday. It’s the fifth time he’s had a stress fracture and I’ve got nothing but total admiration for the way he’s conducted himself throughout,” he added.
