One of the many injuries that took place during the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League was Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis’ shoulder injury. He had landed awkwardly on his shoulder during a training session with the Kings XI Punjab.

Stoinis is currently resting in Perth, from where he is set to fly to Brisbane for assessing if his shoulder requires a surgery. Australia wants a decision to be taken as soon as possible, to know if Stoinis can be fit to play in the upcoming Champions Trophy.

Herald Sun reported that just four members of the Australian Champions Trophy squad are training in Brisbane right now. Next week, all the Australian players will gather in England. Mitch Marsh, Matt Wade and Josh Hazelwood will fly to England along with Stoinis if he is deemed fit. Other players returning from the IPL are also expected in England by the coming week.

The ideal replacement for Stoinis would be James Faulkner if the former is ruled out. But after Faulkner, the closest to the contention could be Peter Handscomb, who recently has performed very well in domestic cricket. Steve Smith and his boys will play a warm-up game on May 26.

Australia gave a few shocks when they announced their squad for Champions Trophy on Thursday, leaving out names like Usman Khawaja and Shaun Marsh. Moises Henriques got another chance, while Chris Lynn can be the winning factor for the team that has already won the cup twice. Anyhow, they have a strong team with some experienced names to do well in the race for the prestigious trophy.

Australian Squad for Champions Trophy:

Steve Smith (c), David Warner, Pat Cummins, Aaron Finch, John Hastings, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Moises Henriques, Chris Lynn, Glenn Maxwell, James Pattinson, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade, Adam Zampa.
