The Ashes 2021-22 was amid too much confusion owing to Australia’s strict quarantine rules and restrictions. It was even reported that England might abandon this tour as it going to affect them mentally along with their families. However, after ECB’s ‘conditional approval’, Joe Root and his men will be touring Australia in December-January.
As soon as this news came to the fore, the England team’s fan club-Barmy Army has decided to fly to Australia to support their team. As per the reports, around 15,000 English fans are on the waiting list for Ashes 2021-22. The main ‘sore’ point was resolved between CA and ECB before the tour got ‘conditional approval’ and in the same light, Barmy Army is set to come in huge numbers during the 4th and 5th Ashes Test in January 2022.
“The overseas touring group, formed as a result of the mockery they received in the Australian media on the 1994-95 trip, have over 15,000 England supporters on the waiting list for travel packages this winter, although far fewer are expected to head Down Under due to the uncertainty surrounding travel restrictions,” a report in Daily Mail read.
The Australian government is also looking forward to opening their borders and allow international travelers from next month. The plan will be carried state by state as per their vaccination scenarios. However, Barmy Army seems enthusiastic to support their national team in Ashes.
Barmy Army group are hoping to head out to Australia to support at the Ashes
“The Australian government are planning to reopen their borders for international travel next month on a state-by-state basis depending on vaccination levels, although foreigners are unlikely to be admitted until next year. England’s Barmy Army group are hoping to head out to Australia to support at the Ashes,” the report added.
Earlier Joe Root stated as per reports that a full-strength English side will take the field in the upcoming Ashes. The reports came up when many high-profile England players showed their unwillingness for the same tour. Australia’s strict COVID-19 rules and quarantine protocols which their families also had to go through were the main reason behind their resentment.
