Team India, led by KL Rahul, is in Harare for a three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, which is set to commence on August 18, Thursday. Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked its team members to take as little time as possible for showers due to a shortage of water supply in the city.

The BCCI stated that the water situation in Harare is “severe” and that the players have been asked not to waste water at any cost. They added that the pool sessions have also been cut down for the team to ensure that water is not wasted.

“Yes, the water situation in Harare is severe and the players have been informed about that,” a BCCI official told InsideSport. “They have been asked not to waste water at any cost and take bath for as little time as possible. Also, pool sessions have been cut down to save water.”

‘Harare West & other parts of Harare have had no running water for the past 3 weeks’

Linda Tsungirirai Masarira, a Zimbabwean politician put out on social media that some parts of Harare have had no running water for the last three weeks, which is a violation of Section 77 of the constitution of the country, which addresses the right to safe, clean and potable water.

“Harare West in particular & other parts of Harare have had no running water for the past 3 weeks,” Masarira wrote on Twitter. “Water is life, the unavailability of it, therefore is a threat on people’s health & sanitation. @cohsunshinecity (The governing body of Harare) & local government ministry should stop playing with people’s lives & ensure that water is available for all as soon as yesterday. We can’t be debating availability water issues this day & age.”

In a long thread of tweets, Masarira voiced that people’s lives matter and those in powers have failed to fulfill their duties. She also expressed that the city’s governing body cannot be spared and are the ones to be blamed for the non-fulfilment to provide safe and clean water.
