While the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) extravaganza is going on with full flow, England is playing against Pakistan in the first Test match at the Lord’s. After the end of the first day’s play of the Test match, the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Anti-Corruption and Security Unit banned the use of smartwatches during any cricket match as two of the Pakistan cricketers Hasan Ali and Babar Azam were seen wearing the device on the field during play.

BCCI takes similar stance

As per recent reports in Mumbai Mirror, it is understood that following the ICC’s decision in the Lord’s Test to ban the use of smartwatches, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also disallowed the use of smartwatches in the IPL. The BCCI had already stated in its guideline of do’s and don’ts during that are required to be followed during the tournament that wearing a smartwatch is prohibited.

Pakistan cricketers come under the radar

The ICC noticed that two Pakistan cricketers were wearing smartwatches during the first day of the Lord’s Test and consequently announced the verdict to ban the use of the device. The latest advanced watches can be used for communication purposes due to the WiFi service provided in it, which allows an individual to converse with the outside world with the smartwatch.

It can also be operated to exchange information from people outside the ground as well, which is why ICC decided to ban it.

As per the guidelines issued by the ICC, the use of communication devices is barred in the dressing room area. The players have to deposit their mobile phones before they enter the dressing room and a walkie-talkie is given to the members in the change room in order to communicate any type of message during the match.
