As per the latest developments, the BCCI selection committee won’t make too many changes in the Indian squad for the five-match home T20I series against South Africa in June. It must be noted that members of the selection committee have been attending matches in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. As the series against Proteas is right after the IPL, selectors were expected to pick players based on their form in the gala competition.

However, that won’t be the case. Notably, the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee will have some major calls to make as many young players have put their hands up in the competition. Uncapped stars like Rahul Tripathi, Umran Malik, and Arshdeep Singh have given a tough time to some of the best in the business.

Selectors to face a major headache

Veteran Dinesh Karthik has also made his bat talk and is open about his ambitions to play in the T20 World Cup later this year. At the same time, big guns like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been woefully out of form. Nevertheless, this won’t hamper their place on the national team. According to a report in Cricbuzz, there won’t be many surprises in India’s squad for the T20I series against South Africa, which gets underway on June 9.

While a few new names are expected to be inducted into the squad, there won’t many any major axing. Hence, players who were in the scheme of things for the West Indies and Sri Lanka series should retain their place in the team. Meanwhile, the Men in Blue have a lot of T20 matches on the plate before the T20 World Cup 2022, which will take place in Australia.

After South Africa, the Rohit Sharma-lead team will meet Ireland, England, and West Indies in the away T20I series, and the selectors might consider giving opportunities to fresh faces. The series against Ireland will coincide with the fifth Test of the inconclusive series against England. Hence, in all possibilities, BCCI will name a second-stringed squad for Ireland T20Is.
