As per the latest developments, veteran Indian opener Rohit Sharma bought a four-acre land in the name of his wife, Ritika Sajdeh, in Alibaug. The registration formalities were done at the Alibaug sub-registrar’s office on Tuesday (December 14). Notably, Rohit isn’t the first cricketer to have bought land in this area. The likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Ravi Shastri, and Ajit Agarkar also possess properties in Alibaug.
It has to be noted that Rohit has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match series against South Africa, which gets underway on December 26, due to a hamstring injury. He’s likely to travel to the rainbow nation next month only if he regains fitness for the subsequent ODI series, where he’s supposed to lead the national team. Meanwhile, the 34-year-old reportedly travelled to Saral Mhatroli village, which is about 20 km from Alibaug city.
“It is true that Rohit Sharma had come on Tuesday to our office in connection with a land deal. We can’t confirm whether he bought the land or the person accompanying him did,” Alibaug sub-registrar Sanjana Jadhav was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.
The land was bought in the name of Rohit Sharma’s wife
Village sarpanch Amit Naik staed the land bought by Rohit was about four acres and has a market value of around INR 9 crore. He also said this was Sharma’s first visit to the village. “The land was bought in the name of his wife. They completed the registration formalities at the sub-registrar’s office and then reached the village to perform a small puja,” the sarpanch said.
“The person who sold the land is my acquaintance. I signed as a witness on the property deal. I have also known Rohit for the last 10 years. He has bought the land in the name of his wife. Two lawyers were also present on the occasion,” said Vikram Sheth, a resident of Alibaug.
Meanwhile, Rohit would be raring to regain fitness for the ODI series as it would be his first assignment as India’s full-time white-ball captain. He took over the reins from Virat Kohli, as announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India last week. Hence, it would be interesting to see how he fares in the new role.
