Ravi Shastri has held the position of head coach of the Indian team since 2017 and has done a fairly good job at maintaining Team India’s stature in world cricket. His contract is soon going to expire after the T20 World Cup later this year. There have been speculations that the contract might not get renewed despite all his success as the head coach.

Meanwhile, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly along with a few of his accomplices will land in England and will stay back until the end of the second Test between England and India at Lords. The match is starting on August 12 and a report has stated that Ganguly and co. could have a word with Shastri about his future with the Indian team.

There have been mixed reports which have emerged regarding the Shastri contract. There have been suggestions that the BCCI is keen on having Rahul Dravid as the head coach after Shastri’s tenure ends. While some have also suggested that it is Shastri himself, who doesn’t want to continue in the role.

It will surely be discussed over the course of the Lord’s Test. But I would still say too early: BCCI source

“Too early to talk about this, but as you are aware the president, secretary, treasurer, and vice-president are landing in London today. So they will interact with Shastri and the team and discuss various things around the tour and future of Indian cricket. If there is much to the topic of Shastri not looking to continue, it will surely be discussed over the course of the Lord’s Test. But I would still say too early,” the source said as quoted by Inside Sport.

Under Shastri, India has won two overseas Test series in Australia, won ODI and T20I series in South Africa and New Zealand, and has also qualified for the ICC World Test Championship final. But despite all of that, there have been updates that suggest that Shastri won’t continue in the role. On top of that, Dravid recently was the backup head coach for the Sri Lanka tour. Some reports even suggested that there was some positive feedback which the board has received as far as Dravid’s role as a coach is concerned.
