Ricky Ponting is a certified legend of the game. The three-time ICC World Cup-winning player, in which he was the captain twice when Australia won the tournament in 2003 and 2007; Ponting is often called one of the greatest captains as well for the Kangaroos. He retired from the game in 2012 and was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2018.

He is iconic in every sense of the term given his amazing record of 13378 runs in 168 Tests and 13704 runs in 375 ODI matches with a combination of 71 international centuries to his name. He also scored 401 runs in 17 T20I matches with a best of 98*. He led his team to 26 consecutive undefeated (completed) World Cup matches. Even after stepping down from the game, he has transitioned to coaching and media personality doing commentary in the ongoing Australia-Pakistan Test series.

Fan hands Ricky Ponting for a photo, with another presenter

However, Ponting was recently given a reality check of his popularity by a fan, who asked him for a photo during the start of the day-night Test match between Australia and Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. However, the twist here is that the fan didn’t want to take a photo with Ponting himself. The admirer asked the former Australia captain to click his picture with Australian sports presenter Melanie McLaughlin.

Channel Seven’s official account posted the pictures of Ponting clicking a photo of Melanie with the fan on Twitter. This was then retweeted by McLaughlin with a funny caption. “A fan walks up to Ricky Ponting and @Mel_Mclaughlin, asking for a picture…And then hands the phone to Ricky so he can take the photo 😂,” Channel seven posted.

Ponting, along with Melanie, is part of the commentary team of Channel Seven for the ongoing two-Test series between Australia and Pakistan. The Kangaroos already have a 1-0 lead in the series with them winning the first Test match by an innings and 5 runs at Gabba in Brisbane.

Australia is yet to lose any of the five pink-ball Test matches they have played so far. The home team won the toss and chose to bat first in the day-night Test match. On the other hand, Pakistan gave a Test debut to 19-year-old seamer Muhammad Musa and also brought in Imam-Ul-Haq in the playing XI.
