Injury has nearly shattered the Indian wicketkeeper Wriddhaman Saha’s career but now he has recovered and is seeing a glimmer of hope to make his comeback in the Indian team. He last played for India during the South Africa tour in January 2018 and since then has only seen Rishabh Pant grow as a Test cricketer and importantly, behind the stumps.

The way things have panned out in the recent Test tours, Pant seems to be the preferred wicket-keeper now. He has scored runs in England and Australia and the obvious question will arise when the selectors will come together to pick the team before India’s next Test series. However, Saha looks at the situation very practically and has put the team ahead of anything.

He also lauded Rishabh Pant for grabbing the opportunity in his absence and feels that the selectors will take the final decision on who will play in the team among the two.

I want the team to do well

“Injuries can happen at any time and someone will come in. The person who comes in will obviously look to give it his best and Rishabh has done just that. Team is the priority and I want the team to do well and also I feel Rishabh has done well and proved himself. Now it is on the selectors to decide how they are looking at things going forward.

“Have been out of the game for a while and I had a good prep with the Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Having played that I feel good and I know that the IPL is an opportunity to establish myself as a good IPL always makes people take note of you,” Saha was quoted as saying by India Today.

It remains to be seen now if the selectors bring Wriddhiman Saha back in the side or he will be made to wait as the back-up wicketkeeper.
