Rising Pune Supergiants get a domestic boost prior to their 2017 campaign as they rope in Shardul Thakur into their squad. This is not the first time Thakur will be seen in the gigantic Indian Premier League as the Maharashtra-born cricketer was a part of Preity Zinta’s Kings XI Punjab in 2015.

Unfortunately, Shardul managed to earn only a single cap by his name in his first spell in the Indian Premier League where he faced Delhi Daredevils at Firoz Shah Kotla in Delhi. The 25-year-old bowler conceded 38 runs in that match in his three overs but was lucky enough to pick up a wicket.

After winning the services of Mayank Agarwal from Delhi Daredevils, Shardul Thakur is expected to add to the quality of the squad being the second signing for the Supergiants this season. We saw some crucial decisions being taken at the Giants camp this time with Steve Smith replacing Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the captain while they bought Englishman Ben Stokes for a whopping 14.5 crores which shook not only the world but also the player himself.

Shardul Thakur is renowned for his aggressive attitude with the ball and his ability to swing it away from right handers. The bowler who plays for Mumbai can pitch the ball hard on the ground generating a decent pace. Thakur played an integral role in Mumbai’s 41st Ranji Trophy title in February 2016 as he gelled brilliantly with fellow teammate Dhawal Kulkarni.

As far as international experience is concerned, Thakur was called up to feature in the Board Presidents XI to face South Africa A and Australia A after he showed sparks of brilliance in 2014-15 domestic season. He had a match to remember against the visiting South Africans later that year as he took a four-wicket haul including the wickets of Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis.
