35-year old former New Zealand cricketer Rob Nicol has called it quits from all forms of cricket, domestic as well as international cricket. The 35-year-old featured in two Tests, 22 ODIs and 21 T20Is, scoring 941 runs that included two centuries in the 50-over format.

Nicol also has the distinction of scoring a century on debut, something which only Martin Guptill had when he smashed an impressive ton against Zimbabwe on his ODI debut. He was also a vital cog in the wheel as far as the Kiwis were concerned by ensuring that his side did well in the shortest format as well, especially grabbing eyeballs with his performances in the 2010 ICC World T20. He made his T20I debut against the Windies in the same tournament.

Nicol was an important player for Auckland in the domestic circuit and plied his trade as a handy all-rounder, something that eventually earned him a place in the New Zealand side. He was particularly wily with his dual bowling prowess, being able to bowl both medium pace as well as off-spin. This trait itself earned him a place in the New Zealand side and ensured him massive successes in the domestic circuit as well.

The 35-year old’s first-class cricketing career spanned 17 years, eight years of which were spent playing for Auckland before he made the move to Canterbury in 2009-10. In the longest format, Nicol smashed an impressive 6000 odd runs and picked 43 wickets, something that saw him called up by Mike Hesson to the national side for Tests. However, in spite of his, he was more prolific in the shortest format with better numbers to show for. Nicol had 4717 runs in List A cricket, including nine hundreds and 96 wickets.

He replaced his countryman Kane Williamson in the English county side Gloucestershire and played a season in the County Championshps as well.

Finished, for Rob Nicol
