Australian cricketer Rob Quiney has announced his retirement from the first-class cricket following his ouster from the list of contracted players from the domestic team Victoria ahead of the 2017/18 season. Quiney, however, will continue to represent the Melbourne Stars team in the Big Bash League. The Bushrangers have announced the contract list on Monday with Peter Handscomb as their new captain.

Victoria has undergone major revamp to their contract list after their captain Matthew Wade returned to his home team Tasmania while the all-rounder Marcus Stoinis also made a transfer to Western Australia. However, Victoria will have the services of Aaron Finch, Glenn Maxwell, and James Pattinson, who are the Australian national players along with their captain Handscomb.

“Rob Quiney has been a tremendous figure in Victorian cricket throughout his highly decorated career,” said Shaun Graf, Cricket Victoria’s general manager. “He embodies all of Victoria’s values and it’s a testament to his skill and character that he’s been able to achieve so much success as a player, particularly playing in our five most recent Sheffield Shield titles including the three-peat.” He added.

Quiney has featured in 96 first-class matches in his career with 88 of them for Victoria. He made his FC debut way back in 2007 for Victoria against Tasmania and scored 5302 runs for them in his career with ten centuries at an average of 37.60. In the eight FC games he played for other than Victoria, Quiney scored 372 runs at 28.62 including a century.

His Test career lasted two matches during the 2012 home series against South Africa where he scored nine runs in the only inning in his debut Test and bagged a pair in the second. He hasn’t represented the national team in the limited-overs formats.
