Robin Uthappa, during the post-match presentation, went ahead to state that the Kolkata Knight Riders camp want him to bat at one down as it is a pivotal position to bat at. Uthappa has taken it up as a challenge to bat at the position as his team needs someone experienced who can handle pressure in the slot. The KKR camp believes that Uthappa has it in him to deliver the goods at this crucial position.

Uthappa was adjudged as the man of the match after his knock of 68 runs which set up another victory for the home team by 17 runs against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The Karnataka batsman had the rub of green after he nicked a healthy edge to Saha, the very first ball he faced. The umpire could not hear the noise, and Uthappa was adjudged not out. He made the most of the umpiring error and steadied the ship of the KKR innings along with Manish Pandey to post a score of 172.

Uthappa previously had played for Royal Challenger Bangalore, Pune Warriors India, and Mumbai Indians. Since he was bought by the Knight Riders in 2014, he has been an integral part of the team. Uthappa has amassed as many as 3488 runs in 138 outings in the IPL. He has scored 18 half centuries with the best score of 83* during the process.

“The team requires me to bat at No 3. I have taken that challenge on. It’s a very important position as well. It’s an important wicket and we need someone who is experienced and can handle that pressure to make sure that you don’t lose another wicket immediately,” said the right-hander.

On being questioned about the experiment with Sunil Narine opening the innings, Robin Uthappa stated that one bad performance doesn’t necessarily infer that the experiment has failed. He believes that a player must be backed continuously to reap rewards from him.

“I wouldn’t say that the experiment is not working, because it’s just one game, He is hitting the ball really well. I think it’s important for us to back him. If we don’t back players in this tournament, they tend to breed insecurity and we will back Sunil all the way. He is going to repay that faith.” specified the 31-year old wicketkeeper-batsman.

The focus now shifts to Delhi for the Knight Riders as they look to dominate proceedings by bagging important points to stay on top of the table. They lock horns with the Daredevils at their home ground in Feroz-Shah Kotla on Monday.
