Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has confirmed that he will play the opening match of Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League scheduled to start in two days time. The limited overs opener has been out of the team since December 2016 and received yet another setback before the IPL as he was unable to feature in the Deodhar Trophy.

He was set to lead India Blue but considering the prowess Rohit possess especially in the shorter formats, he won’t take long to get into the groove gain the IPL. He has been an inspiration leader for the franchise and has led them to two title triumphs in 3 years. He has also been the most steady batsman in the team and has won them many matches from precarious situations.

Addressing the pre-season press conference Rohit Sharma said, “Everything is fine and I’m waiting to get back onto the field. Yesterday was our practice game, I played full 40 overs without any issues, so looking good. I missed a lot of games but injuries are part & parcel of a sportsman’s career. I was just focusing on how quickly I could get back.

“When you have a big injury, you tend to lose a lot of muscle and that weakens your strength. The big challenge for me was to gain that muscle back first, become a lot stronger. A lot of things I focused on, thankfully, I am back on the field, back on my feet, ready to play again.” Injuries have been a part of Rohit Sharma’s career of late and the champion batsman will look to recover fully and be there for the opening match on 6th April.

Mumbai Indians bought Karn Sharma and K Gowtham for whopping sums and also purchased har-hitter Asela Gunaratne at his base price. The IPL will surely work wonders for Rohit Sharma when Indian will go into their Champions Trophy defence in June.
