Rohit Sharma in awe of the sporting spirit shown by Indian and Sri Lankan fans

The Nidahas Trophy 2018 embarked with not many eyes attracted to it, but the way it finished caught everyone’s attention. Indian contingent led by an exuberant Rohit Sharma managed to defeat Bangladesh off the final ball in the most dramatic ways possible. Dinesh Karthik was the hero of the game, playing a mind-boggling cameo.

India was in trouble when Vijay Shankar made a meal of Mustafizur’s 18th over. The equation boiled down to 34 needed in 2 overs and the odds were completely against India to pull off a miracle. In walked Dinesh Karthik and smashed a six, four and a six off the first three balls he faced in Rubel Hossain’s penultimate over.

When things came down to the final ball with India needing 5 runs off the final ball, Karthik bludgeoned a six over covers off Soumya Sarkar to help his side lift the trophy. This came completely against the blue and the ones who were disappointed with Karthik getting demoted in the batting lineup ended up saying it was a fitting finish for this wonderful talent.

Fans display a great sporting spirit

Apart from the on-field action that enthralled everyone in the stadium in Colombo, Indian and Sri Lankan fans showed great spirit and character. The Sri Lankan fans were palpably annoyed with Bangladesh’s behavior in the final group game when Shakib Al Hasan almost managed to abandon the game after getting upset with an umpiring decision.

The entire stadium was in support of the men in blue and when India won the game, a Sri Lankan fan was spotted celebrating with popular Indian cricket fanatic Sudheer Gautam. The Sri Lankan fan was lifting Sudheer in the air whilst the latter was swinging the Tri-color flag high in the sky. It was a beautiful moment for the fans to savor and Indian skipper Rohit Sharma too was amazed by it.

Rohit himself carried the Sri Lankan flag across the stadium after the game and won many hearts with his gesture. He tweeted saying that this moment provided by the Sri Lankan fan and Sudheer Gautam stands at par with Karthik’s heroics.
