Having done quite a few firsts on the cricket field Rohit Sharma is now set to become the first Indian cricketer to deliver the ceremonial ‘first pitch’ in a baseball game. The American Major League Baseball (MLB) club Seattle Mariners will play Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday around 1 PM IST at the Safeco Field in the United States of America.

The first pitch is a ritual followed in the sport; they invite a guest of honour to throw the opening pitch and with that initiate the proceedings of the match. Rohit is in the US on a tour where he will be visiting San Francisco, Seattle and Los Angeles. He will meet his fans in those parts of the country and also take part in cricketing clinics.

He has a bit of a break at the moment since the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 where he led the Mumbai Indians. The Indian team will now play Afghanistan in a Test at home but Rohit isn’t a part of the squad, however, he has a big assignment to look forward to. The team will tour England for a three-ODI and three-T20I-match series and he will soon start preparations for the challenge.

Not bothered by Test exclusion

The opener has a good ODI record in England having done well there in the last couple of Champions Trophies that were played there. He wasn’t bothered by his exclusion from the Test side and wants to focus on what he has to do.

“Nothing changes for me. I don’t want to change anything. I want to keep things simple. What has happened has happened. There is a right time for everything,” Rohit was quoted as saying by TOI.

He also has time to catch up on some FIFA action as the World Cup 2018 gets underway soon. The 31-year-old is a Spain fan and will be rooting for the European side. “I will watch some action for sure. No hesitation, my favourite team is Spain,” he added.
