One of India’s most successful limited-overs batsman, Rohit Sharma will once again take on the captaincy reigns in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli for the upcoming Asia Cup campaign. While Virat will be rested as he has been playing non-stop cricket, Rohit will be coming into the squad after being sidelined for the ongoing five-Test series against the Three Lions.

Rohit has led the charge impeccably every time he has been bestowed with the responsibility, and his added experience from skippering MI in the IPL has often come to the fore. With adequate rest, he has got enough time in prepping himself mentally and physically both as a batsman and a skipper.

After being declared the captain for Asia Cup, a fan asked him on Twitter to differentiate between leading the national team and the MI in the IPL. As exquisite as the man, Rohit Sharma came up with a very straightforward reply.

“One is teammates you travel with all year round, and the other is players you play against and may never have even met before!” he said.

Here’s his tweet:

Focussed on leading India to triumph

Rohit rues his missed opportunity in the longest format. A sensational white-ball batsman, the 31-year-old has never managed to replicate his form in the extended format especially in overseas conditions.

Even in the limited-overs series against England, Rohit Sharma put up a stellar display, smashing two centuries. In the final T20I in Bristol, the Indian opener struck a match-winning ton. He backed it up with another three-figure score in the opening ODI which gave India a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

However, for now, Rohit Sharma will be focussed on leading India to a triumph in the Asia Cup. Moreover, he will be eyeing to get some runs under his belt especially with their best batsman not featuring in the tournament.
