Former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has heaped praises on Rohit Sharma for being able to lead teams with a lot of efficiency. Rohit’s fortunes in cricket changed in 2013 when he took over from Ricky Ponting as the skipper of the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. It was also the same year when he started opening the batting for Team India at the highest level.

Eight years later, the Nagpur-born Rohit is the most successful skipper in the history of the IPL, having won five titles, although MI failed to qualify for the playoffs last time. Tendulkar reckoned that apart from his potential to lead, Rohit’s ability to hold his composure in crunch situations sets him apart from the rest.

There are multiple things that a captain has to take care of, says Sachin Tendulkar

“Whatever my interaction with Rohit has been, he has a very smart cricketing brain. He doesn’t panic. He is able to absorb pressure is what I saw. That is important when you are leading the side,” Tendulkar was quoted as saying in Hindustan Times.

Tendulkar said that Rohit has hardly let his team down and has been able to take the apt decisions in the right moments in his stint with the Mumbai-based franchise. It’s pertinent to note that MI have retained Sharma as one of their four players ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.

“There are multiple things that a captain has to take care of. If you are in a situation when the team is looking up to you, then it is important that the captain keeps his cool and does the job and that is what I have noticed in Rohit during the time we spent at Mumbai Indians,” he added.

Last month, Rohit also took over as the full-time captain of Team India’s T20I team after Virat Kohli relinquished leadership following the T20 World Cup 2021. In his very first assignment, Sharma guided the Men in Blue to a thumping 3-0 series whitewash over the Black Caps.

Rohit earlier served as the vice-captain of India’s limited-overs teams and captained them when Kohli used to be absent from the playing eleven.
