When Day 5 of the Brisbane Test began, it was all about Australia needing 10 wickets to win. All the experts were going gaga about the cracks in the pitch and how India needed to bat out 98 overs to save the match and retain the Border Gavaskar series. But this Indian team is different and they sensed something in the post-lunch session and began scoring runs quickly.

They lost wickets in the process but that belief never went anywhere and that man, Rishabh Pant was at it yet again much like he was in Sydney. And after so many touch and go events, and finally, the moment came when the southpaw hit a low full toss from Josh Hazlewood down the ground for a four, and the whole of India jumped in elation after witnessing the history.

Team India players sitting just outside the boundary also celebrated the win in style. Two of the most senior players of the team, Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma, were sitting beside each other and they hugged in happiness soon after the victory. Rather Rohit was then hilariously caught using a curse word and the video of the same is going viral. “Bhe**hod,” to celebrate the memorable moment of Indian cricket.

Here’s the video:

A complete team effort from India

India were 186/6, trailing by 183 runs, in the first innings at one stage. And to end up winning the match chasing 328 runs on the final day is really something special. Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur took the team close to Australia’s total first and then Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant just batted superbly with ample support from the likes of Shubman Gill, Mayank Agarwal and Sundar.

Australia were clearly ahead going into the final day but India always had the belief throughout the series and they ended up scripting history down under. Despite missing Virat Kohli after the first Test, Ajinkya Rahane led the bruised and battered squad to make their way to create history. No wonder Rohit Sharma and the rest of the Indian team was delighted after Pant scored those precious winning runs.
