Ravindra Jadeja was back into India’s ODI side after more than a year (according to the bowler himself, and he made his presence felt in the just-concluded Asia Cup, both with the bat and ball. The spinner-all-rounder’s exploits in coloured-clothing cricket also earned him accolades from his skipper in the tournament Rohit Sharma.

Jadeja was not there in the original squad which was picked up for the Asia Cup. However, things started to change for him after he produced an eye-catching all-round experience in the final Test match against England at the Oval. He then got a call in the Asia Cup squad after original pick Axar Patel got injured and started delivering from the moment he got an opportunity.

Jadeja picked 4 for 29 right in his comeback game

Jadeja picked four wickets for 29 runs in his comeback ODI game against Bangladesh in the Super Four game and then picked three for 46 against Afghanistan. He also played two crucial 20-odd run knocks lower down the order against Afghanistan and against Bangladesh in the final besides effecting a brilliant runout in the title clash. Rohit applauded him saying the 29-year-old grabbed the comeback opportunity with both hands after failing to play for the country in the limited-over game for almost 15 months.

“When you are out of the team you have that fire inside, you have that burning desire where you want to make a comeback and prove yourself rather than proving anyone else,” reports cited Rohit as saying.

“I think he has proved himself in this tournament that he is much better than what he was before. His bowling, batting and fielding abilities are very crucial to the team.”

The cricketer himself also agreed that he wanted to prove himself rather than anybody else.

“I was almost out for 15 months and I wasn’t feeling good. I want to play white-ball cricket, I just wanted to prove myself and improve on my game,” he said after India clinched their seventh Asia Cup title beating Bangladesh by 3 wickets in a thriller.
