Indian opener Rohit Sharma has undergone successful surgery in London on his right upper quadriceps tendon with the recovery process keeping him out for three months at least. The limited overs specialist revealed this great news through twitter when he updated his status on his injury and his medical condition since he last spoke at an event in Mumbai.

He tweeted: “All went well. Thank you for your good wishes. Can’t wait to be back at it.”

Earlier, BCCI had confirmed that the cricketer would be meeting medical consultant next week in London for the damage he had suffered during the fifth and final ODI at Visakhapatnam against New Zealand. Rohit sustained a thigh injury on the right leg consequently while trying to complete a run and dragging his thigh across the surface in a desperate attempt to save his wicket.

The injury was further aggravated after the opening batsman decided to neglect it and continue with his knock. He went on to score a match-winning 70 for India but eventually ended up in the hospital.

“ Injured Rohit Sharma to meet medical consultant next week in London. He is expected to miss at least 10-12 weeks of cricket.”

“He will travel to London early next week for specialist consultation with a possibility to undergo surgery,” the BCCI statement stated.

The surgery and the recovery process effectively rules Rohit out of the England series entirely after he wasn’t picked for the Test squad and is unlikely to be fit for the limited over matches that begin on January 15 comprising five ODIs and three T20s.
