Rohit Sharma wishes Lasith Malinga on his birthday

Sri Lankan speedster Lasith Malinga is celebrating his 34th birthday today and the cricketing fraternity is wishing him on social media. Rohit Sharma too was not left behind and he took to Twitter to wish the member of Mumbai Indians. The ‘Hitman’ is currently in Sri Lanka competing in a 5-match ODI series. On Sunday, India sealed the series in the third ODI itself thanks to his match winning innings of 124* in a chase of 217. Rohit along with MS Dhoni steered the chase for Men in Blue as they romped home with 6 wickets in hand. Lasith Malinga, 34, is also playing in the series but is going through a lean patch and is not able to pick wickets like before. The birthday boy plays for Mumbai Indians in the IPL and his captain did not forget to wish him on his special day. Rohit termed Malinga as a ‘match-winner’ and showered his wishes for him. The batsman, like most of the cricketers, took to twitter to express himself. His tweet read, “A true match winner that every captain would love to have in his team, done it so often for his country & #MI.Happy birthday Lasith Malinga.” Earlier today Hardik Pandya too tweeted his wishes for his IPL teammate. Sri Lanka is fighting hard for riposte but are unable to pose any serious threat to the visitors. Akila Dananjaya scared them in the last couple of ODIs but the inability of other bowlers to pick up a wicket has led to their losses. The poor batting is not helping their cause either. Indian openers have scored a hundred each in the series whereas the Sri Lankan batters are struggling to reach half centuries. The hosts would surely hope for a better performance in the last two ODIs as they look to qualify for 2019 World Cup. For that to happen, the birthday boy Malinga, who is on the cusp of 300 wickets in ODIs needs to step up. A lot will depend on their batsmen though as they are the ones who have not given their bowlers enough runs to defend.
