In spite of having somewhat of a torrid time in the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Navdeep Saini has been added to the Indian Test squad that will face-off against Afghanistan in a historic one-off Test match that will be played in Bengaluru on the 14th of June.

Coming off the back of a brilliant season in the Ranji Trophy this time around, Saini had made the cut for the India ‘A’ side that had been coached by Rahul Dravid. However, despite some fantastic performances, he was given limited chances to shine. This time around, it seems as though the opportunity has once again fallen at his feet and that he can shine on the international stage.

RP Singh, a once upon a time Indian pacer has come out with praise for Saini following the latter’s selection As a left-arm fast bowler RP Singh was one of the most important parts of the Indian cricket team. Boasting of tremendous ability to swing the ball, he became an instant success with the then India skipper Sourav Ganguly.

He continued in his role as leader of the pace attack and was an important part of the side led by MS Dhoni that eventually lifted the inagural edition of the World T20 in South Africa. He played a few seasons in the IPL before poor performances and lack of form ensured that he was left out in the cold.

Here is RP Singh’s encouraging tweet

RP Singh also had a few words of encouragement for young Saini. His Tweet read: “Good to see Delhi pacer Navdeep Saini make it to the Indian squad for the One-off test against Afghanistan. Hope he extracts a great deal from his first call-up to the Indian team. #INDvAFG
