England completed a whitewash in the 3-match T20I series against South Africa as they wrapped up the series with a 9-wicket win. Faf du Plessis (52*) and Rassie van der Dussen (74*) put on an unbeaten 127-run stand for the 4th wicket in only 63 balls. As many as 84 runs were scored in the final five overs to push Proteas to 191/3. England lost the wicket of Jason Roy early on but an unbeaten 167-run stand in only 14 overs between Jos Buttler (67*) and Dawid Malan (99*). Malan, especially, hit 16 boundaries during his 47-ball 99 as England completed the chase with 14 balls to spare.

Here are all the statistical highlights from England’s 9-wicket victory during the 3rd SA vs ENG T20I:

A record chase by England team:

192 – The 192-run chase by England is now the highest successful chase in T20I cricket for the loss of one or fewer wickets. England surpassed West Indies’ 191-run chase during the 2017 Kingston T20I against India which was achieved for the loss of only one wicket.

A high-scoring game with fewer wickets:

1 – The 3rd SA vs ENG T20I became the first-ever Twenty20 International to feature as many as four batters remaining unbeaten scoring 50+ runs. Faf du Plessis and Rassie van der Dussen scored 52* and 74* respectively for the home side while England’s Jos Buttler and Dawid Malan scored 67* and 99* respectively.

95.75 – An average of 95.75 runs have been scored per wicket during the 3rd SA vs ENG T20I which is the highest during a completed T20I match. The previous highest was 77.60 during the 2016 WT20 semi-final between India and West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium.

A rare whitewash for England:

1 – The 0-3 series defeat against England is now the first-ever series whitewash for South Africa in the T20I format. This is overall the 3rd time England affected whitewash in the T20I format. They defeated West Indies in West Indies by a 3-0 margin in 2019 and Pakistan in 2015 by 3-0 in UAE which included a Super Over win.

2 – England became only the 2nd team in Men’s T20I cricket to complete a whitewash by chasing down a total in all matches of the series. Pakistan became the first side to do this feat in the last month where they defeated Zimbabwe by a 3-0 margin at home.

Nearly the biggest finish for South Africa:

84 – The 84 runs aggregated by South Africa in the last five overs of their innings are now the 2nd most runs they ever scored between 16th and 20th overs in a T20I match. Their highest is 90 runs during the 2017 Potchefstroom T20I against Bangladesh when David Miller smashed a 35-ball ton.

84 – South Africa’s 84 runs in the last five overs are the most number of runs conceded by England in the final five overs of a T20I inning. The previous most number of runs that England conceded between 16th and 20th overs was 80 runs against India in the 2007 WT20 game in Durban.

Record partnerships for both the teams:

167* – The unbeaten 167-run stand between Jos Buttler and Dawid Malan is now the 2nd highest partnership during a T20I chase. The highest is 171* for the opening wicket between Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson against Pakistan in the 2016 Hamilton T20I. The 167-run stand in this game is England’s 2nd biggest partnership for any wicket in Men’s T20Is and also their highest for the 2nd wicket.

127* – The partnership of 127* between Faf du Plessis and Rassie van der Dussen is now the 2nd highest stand for 4th or a lower wicket in Men’s T20I cricket. David Warner and Glenn Maxwell put on 161 against South Africa for the 4th wicket against South Africa in the 2016 Johannesburg T20I.

A record knock from Malan:

99* – Dawid Malan became only the 3rd player to finish with a score of ‘99’ in T20I cricket. Alex Hales (99) against West Indies in the 2012 T20I and Luke Wright (99*) against Afghanistan in 2012 WT20 are the other two players with a T20I score of 99. Interestingly, all three T20I scores of 99 were recorded while playing for England only.

19 – Dawid Malan has nine fifties and a century across the 19 innings he has batted in the T20I format thus far. Malan is the fastest player to ten T20I 50+ scores bettering Chris Gayle who got there in 25 innings.

Jordan goes past Broad:

66 – Chris Jordan became the leading wicket-taker in Men’s T20I cricket for England with the wicket of Quinton de Kock. He went past Stuart Broad who has claimed a total of 65 wickets in T20Is for England.

A tough game with the ball for Shamsi:

57 – The 57 runs conceded by Tabraiz Shamsi are the 3rd most runs conceded in a T20I for South Africa. Kyle Abbott, against West Indies during the 2015 Johannesburg T20I, conceded 68 runs while David Wiese gave away 58 runs during the 2016 Johannesburg T20I against Australia. Shamsi is also the first spinner to concede 50+ runs in a T20I game for South Africa.
