In recent developments from the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Bangladesh and Sylhet Sixers batting star Sabbir Rahman has been penalised for misbehaving with the on-field umpire during the match against Comilla Victorians on Sunday.

After posting a par score of 145, Comilla Victorians could not restrict their opposition Sylhet Sixers as they chased down the requisite total with four wickets in hand. The Victorians boasted the likes of Marlon Samuels, Dwayne Bravo, Jos Buttler, Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan within their rank.

But it was only the West Indian, Marlon Samuels who stood up for the Victorians with his innings of 60 off just 47 balls which comprised of 2 boundaries and 3 sixes. Santokie and Taijul Islam picked up a couple of wickets each during the innings while Plunkett and Hossain could only manage a wicket each.

For the Sixers, Upul Tharanga and Andre Fletcher came out all guns blazing with their 73 runs stand before Fletcher was dismissed for 36. Sabbir Rahman, who came in at number 3, could only score 3 runs before he was adjudged leg before by stand-in umpire Mahfuzur Rahman Litu.

Rahman was seen abusing Litu at the end of the match

According to Cricbuzz, at the end of the match, Sabbir Rahman was seen hurling abuses at Litu. “He’s committed a Level 2 offence,” match referee Debroboto Paul said on Monday. Rahman, hence, lost 50% of his match fees and also received three demerits points.

“Fifty percent of his match fee has been cut, along with [the player being given] three demerits points,” further added the match referee. Despite the two wickets from Dwayne Bravo, the Victorians could not restrict the Sixers due to the partnership between Ross Whiteley and Nasser Hossain.

Sixers successfully chased down the 146-run target off the penultimate ball to win their second successive game in BPL 2017. Upul Tharanga was adjudged as the man of the match for his 40-ball 51.
