Bangladesh star Sabbir Rahman is set to be banned for six months from international cricket. The disciplinary committee of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) recommended the punishment for him to the president Nazmul Hassan. This penalty is a result of abusing a fan on social media by the cricketer. Sabbir was called by BCB disciplinary committee for hearing and gave him a chance to defend himself.

He was punished heavily twice in the recent past for his off-field wrongdoings. But he showed no indication to rectify his behaviour and as a result, BCB thought nothing this time but took a stern way against the batsman, who is axed from the Bangladesh squad for Asia Cup.

Sabbir had assaulted a fan during a first-class game in December last year. He was stripped of the national contract and fined for BDT 20 Lakhs and he was banned for six months from domestic cricket as well.

Punishment details

After the conclusion of the hearing, BCB director Ismail Hayder said, “The disciplinary committee of BCB has recommended banning Sabbir Rahman in international cricket for six months. He was allegedly involved to abuse a fan on social media. But his penalty is not only for this. We have decided his penalty considering his previous wrongdoings too.”

Sabbir might be slapped with more penalty that could be a life ban if he fails to maintain the guidance that is provided to him by BCB. “Board president ordered us not to tolerate even a single violation of the rule by any national cricketer and he ordered us to take stern way to punish. We have already sent our recommendation to the BCB president. Sabbir’s ban will start once he signs on it,” Hyder added.

BCB disciplinary committee had called Mosaddek Hossain too along with Sabbir for hearing. He is involved in a dowry problem and his wife has filed a case against him. BCB decided not to take any action against the batsman right now, because his case is in the court. “We decided not to take any action against Mosaddek right now. But, we will wait for the verdict of the court. We will go to the same way what the court decides.’ he concluded.
