“If Cricket is a religion, Sachin is our god”. The quote itself speaks volumes about a man who kept the hopes of 1 billion Indians alive for a span of nearly 25 years. Sachin Tendulkar’s success was like a collective pride for the whole of India. Ever since the “Master Blaster” hung his boots in 2013, the cricketing fraternity has missed him badly.

When it was announced earlier in the year that a biopic would be made on Sachin Tendulkar there was a buzz and expectation among everyone. Everyone had that sense of anticipation to relive the cricketing journey of the biggest cricketer ever all over again. Sachin: A Billion Dreams directed by James Erskine and produced by Ravi Bhagchandka released its first poster on April 11th through a tweet by the man himself from his official twitter account.

It became viral within a blink of an eye and even the King of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan expressed his desire to watch the film. He tweeted, “This one I have to watch. Show me soon my friend.” Sachin’s one-time opening partner Virender Sehwag also tweeted the poster. The official teaser of the film was released after three days which caught the attention of everyone.

The film will see Sachin Tendulkar playing the role himself, along with Hritesh Arora as younger Sachin and Mayuresh as Nitin Tendulkar. The role of younger Sachin was initially given to Arjun Tendulkar (Sachin’s son).

After making the fans wait for nearly 9 months, the release date of the movie was finally revealed. It is all set to release in theatres on 14th April, 10 days ahead of to Sachin’s 44th birthday. With the fan base he has and the amount of respect he gets across the world, one can surely guarantee a box office success for the movie.

2016 has already seen the release of two biopics on two Indian captains. The first one was Azhar based on former Indian captain Mohammed Azharuddin who was banned for life after his alleged involvement in match-fixing and the most recent ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ the journey of MS Dhoni – arguably the greatest Indian captain ever.
