With the media exaggerating Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly’s comments on the India-Pakistan clash in the World Cup in the wake of the Pulwama attack, it looked like not all was well between the two cricketing legends. Since the attack was carried out by the Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed, there has been a widespread call to boycott Pakistan in the forthcoming World Cup as a mark of protest.

However, it looked like Ganguly and Tendulkar were not on the same page in the matter. Ganguly said that he was in favour of India boycotting Pakistan while also saying that forfeiting the game would not affect the Men in Blue much. On the other hand, Tendulkar opined that he would personally hate to see India give two points to the arch-rivals. He, however, had made it clear that he would back the decision that the country would decide.

Ganguly had then reportedly responded to Sachin’s comment by saying, “He [Sachin Tendulkar] wants two points against Pakistan, I want the World Cup. Whichever way you look at it.”

However, the former India skipper’s comment was misinterpreted by many as they thought that Sourav Ganguly was disagreeing with Sachin. But before the matter could get out of hands, Ganguly took to Twitter to clarify his statement.

“A lot of people in the media is trying to put my statement against Sachin when I said “I want the World Cup” My response has got nothing to do with his statement, nor is my statement against his .. he is, has been and will be one of my best friends for last 25 years @sachin_rt,” Ganguly tweeted.

Need not justify

Sachin has now responded to Ganguly’s clarification, saying that there was no need for him to come up with the comment. The legendary batsman took to Twitter to express his opinion, writing, “Never felt the need for you to justify. Strongly believe that all of us want what’s best for our nation.”
