Former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt has been cleared of any dubious involvement during the Ajman All-Stars T20 league tournament which had come under the scanner of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Anti-Corruption unit.  The competition attracted a lot of attention after videos of some bizarre and shocking dismissals surfaced on social media from the match. Butt could be thanking his lucky stars as he did not feature in that particular match which came under investigation.

The 33-year-old featured in the league along with some other former Pakistan cricketers like Hasan Raza and Muhammad Khalil. After thorough scrutiny, the league has now been disowned and also termed an illegal venture by the Emirates Cricket Board and Ajman Cricket Council.

Butt, who was asked questions by ICC’s Anti-Corruption unit relating to his level of involvement in the event revealed to PTI, “They asked me some questions and I cooperated with them completely. They were satisfied with what I had to say and I have now got clearance from any involvement in any dubious happenings in the tournament in Ajman.”

“It was very worrying for me given what I have been through in the past due to my own blunders. Since serving the ban and returning to cricket I have tried to restrict my socializing and keeping away from off the field activities to keep a clean chit.”

Butt was sentenced to five-year ban from international cricket

The left-handed opener was earlier involved and termed the kingpin of the 2010 spot-fixing scandal in England, following which he was subsequently banned for five years along with fellow Pakistani teammates, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif. A number of no-balls bowled during the fourth Test match between England and Pakistan in at the hallowed turf of Lord’s, threw open a can of worms, which sadly, changed the way our favorite sport has been viewed ever since.

However, after Butt’s return, the tainted cricketer has not been preferred for national team’s selection despite some decent performances in domestic cricket.
