Sandeep Lamichhane praises T20 leagues, feels they help in the growth of players

The Indian Premier League yet again proved why it is one of the most successful cricket leagues in the world. when  Delhi Daredevils handed a debut to the teenage Nepali spinner Sandeep Lamichhane during their match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The 17-year old spinner impressed one and all with his leg-breaks during his 4-over spell.

He became the second youngest bowler to take a wicket when he dismissed RCB wicketkeeper-batsman, Parthiv Patel. Another spin sensation, Afghan-born Muzeeb Zadran is the youngest bowler to have a wicket to his name in the Indian Premier League.

Lamichhane while speaking to the reporters after the match suggested that, back home in Nepal, there are many players like him. Notably, he became the first-ever Nepali player who got selected in the IPL when he was bought by the Delhi-based franchise. Speaking to the press, the Nepal-born player was of the thought that leagues like IPL help cricketers grow.

T20 leagues helpful in the player growth

“I think these kinds of leagues can help you grow your game. You have to stay busy with cricket all the time. ”Just as I have got chance in IPL there are many a talent in Nepal. I am playing for Nevis Patriots (in the Caribbean Premier League) this year. The journey has started and there are lots of opportunities for players in Nepal,” said Lamichhane.

The spinner praised the Delhi Daredevils head coach Ricky Ponting and young captain Shreyas Iyer who handed him his debut IPL cap ahead of the game. “I learnt a lot of things. We have got an exceptional coach and a good captain and all the players are really good,” said the Napali spinner.

Should be thinking about learning all the time

Talking about his IPL journey so far, the leggie who had trained under former Australia skipper Michael Clarke in Sydney said that the one and half months in the tournament has been a very good one. The spinner said that learning is the most important part in times like these. ”The most important thing is how you are learning all the time. It’s been good, these one-and-a-half months,” said the bowler whose spell of 1-25 failed to help Delhi get over the RCB.
