Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Committee of Administrators recently (COA) came to a conclusion that the centrally contracted players will get a 100 percent salary hike. A total of 32 players were given contracts where they were segregated by the grade of contracts.
The support staff too got a pay hike, almost a year after demanding a 100 percent hike in their pay. Sanjay Bangar the batting coach and R Sridhar the fielding coach are the two supporting coaches who have earned a new deal with the BCCI. Recently Rahul Johri had offered them a 25 percent pay hike but they had rejected the same.
Bangar and co had met with the then secretary of BCCI Ajay Shirke and the former president Anurag Thakur for the same reason and the officials had promised to look into the matter. The support staff was working at the same fees for over two years. However, the COA decided to look into the matter and believed that Bangar and Sridhar also deserves a hike.
A source close to BCCI was quoted by Indian Express talking about the matter. The source said that, the salary of the support staff had not been increased for two years and if the players can get the hike even the staff can. “There are no contracts for the support staff and their salaries had not been increased for the past two years. If they can double the pay in the players’ annual contracts, the COA felt that the support staff too deserved at least a 50 percent hike,” the source revealed.
Sanjay Bangar and S Sridhar were paid Rs 10 lakh per month that is 1 crore for a period of 10 months. The coaches and the players are not paid for the two months when they play or coach in the Indian Premier League. The duo has accepted a hike of 50 percent that means Bangar and Sridhar will now pocket Rs 15 lakh each per month.
Anil Kumble had a role to play in this as he met with the Committee of Administrators and proposed the matter in front of them. They had also proposed to bring in the contract system within the support staff but this request was declined.
