Kuldeep Yadav has been one of India’s prime bowlers in the England tour thus far. Having picked up 14 wickets in the limited-overs series, Kuldeep was also retained for the Test side. The five-match series is scheduled to begin on August 1 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. While Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been first choice spinners in Tests, it’s highly likely that Kuldeep will feature in the eleven.
For England, it was Adil Rashid who successfully managed to turn the tables. While he had refused to play red-ball cricket, ECB is likely to consider him for the Tests. However, Indian commentator Sanjay Manjrekar wasn’t too fascinated with the idea of wrist spinners being preferred due to their performances in the limited overs fixtures.
The former Indian cricketer took to Twitter and channelled his outrage regarding the same. According to Manjrekar, it wouldn’t be fair had their limited overs performance were the reasons behind their Test selections. Without naming any individual, Sanjay tweeted the same and aired his opinion on the social networking site.
He wrote, “Not liking the trend of wrist spinners getting ahead in race for spots in Tests based on their limited overs performances.”

However, Twitter had its own take when it came to the above opinion. With Manjrekar being an eminent personality, many followers pointed out his hypocrisy wherein he called for Rohit Sharma’s selection in the longer format. Others felt that he was being biased since none of the players belonged to Mumbai.
There were many others who felt that Ashwin and Jadeja had done little when it came to overseas performances. Hence, Kuldeep Yadav deserved to get a go in the Test side owing to his jaw-dropping shows in the ODI and T20I series.
Here are some of the Twitter reactions
Not liking the trend of commentary these days which are region based rather than cricket sense based!

Yasir Shah was very successful in England so its not a bad idea to include kuldeep,Quality wrist spinners can play a good role in England.

Are u talking about Kuldeep? He performed against Australia, best Test team!?

@imkuldeep18 has played 2 tests and bowled match winning four fors in both. So its not too unfair. Also how else do they prove themselves

May be a valid concern. But frankly, does the overseas performance of Ashwin & Jadeja inspire confidence? Ashwin is so chicken-hearted that even in Tests he switch to bowling round-the-wicket when a batsman shows a bit of aggression.

Sir I think Kuldeep Yadav has proven his ability against Aussies in his first Test match. So his selection is totally justify.

Doesn't matter if the competition is jadeja who can't turn the ball without help from the pitch and has never shown any signs of improvement with bat!!

You want Rohit to play in tests based on the odi performences, and you dont want kuldeep to play for the bloody same reason because he is not from Mumbai Right?😏😏😡😡😡

You have to admit the fact that wrist spinners are wicket takers no matter which format! Wrist spin was a dying art 2 years ago but now it's a trend in modern cricket! #wristspinners #cricket

Kuldeep would do a better job than Ashwin in the test matches in England, most definitely. Although, if the conditions dictate, they could both play.
