If you talk about IPL, the first thing that comes to mind is money, entertainment and parties. But deep down, IPL has always been about providing opportunities to talents long lost within the Indian Structure. IPL boasts many romantic stories about people lost within anonymity like the millions, turning it around and playing with the stars, to live an unreal dream.

Yet another story to unfold is that of the son of a daily wager who migrated from Gorakhpur to Hosur in search of greener pastures. The Kolkata Knight Riders invested belief in the left-handed batsmen Sanjay Yadav and bought him in the auction after his impressive performance in the TNPL. After years of hard work and dedication, Sanjay can finally enjoy his moment of surreality by being a part of a dressing room with the likes of Gambhir, Shakib and Kallis.

In an interview with PTI, Yadav stated “I never expected to be picked for the IPL – especially being a player in a second Division team in the TNCA League. Watching the big players prepare for the T20 tournament has been huge for me. It is how they train and tune-up is fascinating. I am also learning lot interacting”

He was overwhelmed by the fact that Lakshmipathy Balaji would play the role of bowling coach along with the other greats. He added “Bala Sir gives me tips on how to bowl in different match situations and taught me the importance of looking for wickets rather than just containing the batsmen”

Yadav was also thankful for his coach, Premnath, who taught him the basics of cricket for free during the days of financial difficulties. The left-handed batsmen who’s also handy with his off-spin mentioned how big a fan he’s of Kohli and Ashwin.

He further stated that he will be willing to absorb the most out of his role model, Shakib Al Hasan. “He (Shakib) is a bowler, who varies his speeds and is left-handed like me. I hope to learn from him and also West Indian Sunil Narine.” quoting Sanjay.
