Lavishing praise on young Sanju Samson, former India opener Gautam Gambhir feels that the Kerala star is the right man to solve India’s number four woes. The batting spot has been a matter of concern ever since India dropped Yuvraj Singh in mid-2017. Since then the team has tried out a number of option but without much success. The likes of KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthik, Ajinkya Rahane, Ambati Rayudu and Vijay Shankar were tried out but no one managed to cement the spot.

The latest man who is being tried out at that crucial position is Rishabh Pant. But the way Pant performed in the Caribbeans, one can say that he needs to improve by leaps and bounds to become a success at that position. And as India struggle to find the right man for that position, Gautam Gambhir has backed Samson to be that man. Gambhir’s comment came just hours after Samson starred for India A against South Africa A.

Samson smashed 91 from just 48 balls to show his immense credentials once again. Moments later, veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh took to Twitter to state that Samson could be tried out at number four. Gambhir quickly came across that tweet as he echoed Harbhajan’s sentiments by writing:

“Yes @harbhajan_singh on current form and his skills this Southern Star, @IamSanjuSamson can bat even on Moon’s South Pole!!! I wonder if they had space on Vikram to carry this marvel of a batsman. Well done Sanju on scoring 91 off 48 balls against South Africa A side.”

Gambhir’s tweet contained words like Moon’s south pole and Vikram as the ex-cricketer-turned politician brilliantly reminded everyone of India’s space mission on Friday. India were aiming to become the first country in the world to land on moon’s south pole on Friday.

India A thrash South Africa A

Riding on Samson’s blistering 48-ball 91, India A romped to a 36-run win over South Africa A in the fifth and final unofficial ODI. With the win, India sealed the series 4-1. In the rain-affected game which was reduced to 20-over per side, India ended up scoring 204 for 4. In reply, the visitors were all out for just 168.
