Sanju Samson rates maiden IPL 100 as one of his best in his life

Delhi Daredevils’ batsman Sanju Samson rated his maiden IPL century as one of the best knocks in his life. Samson, who powered the Daredevils to 205, was awarded the Man of the Match for his blistering knock of 102.

Sanju Samson had shown glimpses of brilliance while he played for the Rajasthan Royals. The youngster showed promise with elegant strokeplay and composure at the crease, much like his DD coach Rahul Dravid. However, inconsistency crept into his IPL career and Samson was itching to prove himself again in this edition of the IPL. The match against Rising Pune Supergiant was the perfect platform for young Samson to come out all guns blazing.

Although he had scored 31 runs off the first 14 balls he’d faced, Samson took off in the latter half of the innings. He smacked the ball to all parts of the park and took on the likes of Imran Tahir and Ben Stokes. A straight six crashing into the sight screen brought up Samson’s stellar ton.

“This is one of the best knocks of my life and I am very happy that it has come in the IPL. It is the start of the tournament and there is a long way to go. I hope to keep contributing to my team’s success,” the young Kerala batsman said to iplt20.com.

Credit must go where it’s due and Samson took this opportunity to thank his coaches. “Last year I had a bad time. But coach Rahul Dravid and Paddy Upton helped me and I am glad that I can score so well now. I have been learning a lot from them and how to be a better batsman.”

Samson’s hundred and Chris Morris’ ferocious 9-ball 38 gave Delhi a total in excess of 200. In reply, the Rising Pune Supergiant stuttered from the very beginning, losing wickets at regular intervals. They were never in the chase, and the Supergiant’s hopes all but disappeared once Dhoni was dismissed. The Delhi Daredevils registered their first victory of the season and will look to carry on this momentum as they next clash against the Kings XI Punjab at the Kotla.
