Pakistan is entering the danger zone as they face Scotland in the first of the two-match T20 International series on Tuesday at Grange Cricket Club in Edinburgh. The hosts are riding high on confidence after beating England a couple of days ago and no wonder they will fancy their chances against the unpredictable Men in Green as well. But they are facing a number 1 side in the shortest format of the game and it is expected to be a close game. However, Pakistan will be aware of the threat Scotland possess as well.
Callum MacLeod is fresh off his whirlwind ton against England and will be key to the chances of his team in this game as well. Sarfraz Ahmed though would be more confident of his men to go past the home side as they are on a winning spree in the T20 format and more so on this tour also. They are a force to reckon in these conditions with their bowling and expect them to trouble if the conditions are overcast.
Pitch and Conditions
If the ODI between England and Scotland is taken into consideration, then we are set for a humdinger. With small ground and the flat pitch on offer, it will be a run-fest and expect fireworks from both the sides. Moreover, the conditions are expected to be overcast which might relieve the bowlers as they will get some respite with the new ball as it will swing early on.
Scotland would not want to change the winning combination despite the fact that the format has been changed. The momentum is with them and they will hope that their openers Matthew Cross and the skipper Kyle Coetzer get them off to a flyer again. Calum MacLeod will be in focus as well and the onus will be on him to bat through the 20 overs for his team. The likes of Richie Berrington and George Munsey are the fierce hitters of a cricket ball and they will be tipped to finish the innings on a high.
The bowling attack went for a lot of runs against England but they held their nerves when it mattered the most. They have good bowlers in Safyaan Sharif, Alasdair Evans and Chris Sole with Berrington also chipping in with his four-over spell.
Predicted XI: Kyle Coetzer (c), Matthew Cross (wk), Calum MacLeod, Richie Berrington, George Munsey, Dylan Budge, Michael Leask, Mark Watt, Safyaan Sharif, Chris Sole, Alastair Evans
Pakistan’s last T20I series was against Windies at home and they had whitewashed the visitors. It is unlikely that they will make any changes to that line-up. Only Babar Azam is missing from that squad due to injury he sustained during the Test series and Haris Sohail has replaced him. They have some PSL stars in Hussain Talat and Asif Ali as well and their performance on this tour will be focussed more.
The bowling attack of Pakistan is always the best and they have a lot of youngsters coming into the squad for this series. For the starters though Usman Khan, Hasan Ali and Mohammad Amir are likely to make it to the playing XI. There is a concern over Amir’s workload but he should be able to bowl his four overs easily after a significant rest post the Test series.
Predicted XI: Fakhar Zaman, Ahmed Shehzad, Hussain Talat, Asif Ali, Shoaib Malik, Sarfraz Ahmed(c & wk), Faheem Ashraf, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Amir, Hasan Ali
Probable Top Performers
Kyle Coetzer (Scotland), Ahmed Shehzad (Pakistan)
