Suresh Raina underwent surgery on his left knee for the second time on Friday in Amsterdam. The star batsman is now on his way to recover from yet another major surgery. Raina is likely to miss the initial phase of 2019-20 domestic season which is all set to get underway. He had been suffering from a knee niggle over the last few months and had to undergo surgery to overcome the issue.

The BCCI, on Friday, had issued an update on Raina’s surgery, stating that the operation was successful. The Indian cricket board had also stated that the southpaw will require 4-6 weeks of rehab for recovery. Raina’s last competitive appearance came in this year’s Indian Premier League which ended in May. While his team Chennai Super Kings made it to the final, Raina had a tournament to forget.

The Uttar Pradesh star, who has been Chennai Super Kings‘ batting mainstay since the inaugural season, looked out of touch throughout the competition. He managed 383 runs from 17 matches at an average of 23.93. He finished with less than 400 runs for the first time in 3 seasons. Raina will be eyeing to hit the ground running when he recovers from his recent surgery. And the southpaw has made sure to keep his fans updated about his knee.

Suresh Raina, on Saturday, took to Instagram to write a detailed post about his knee surgery. He also revealed that the issue had begun way back in 2007 when he underwent his first knee surgery.

“I am out of surgery and healing steadily, for which I thank my doctors, family, friends, and everyone who has wished me good health & speedy recovery. The issue began way back. It was 2007 when I underwent my maiden knee surgery and later, I was back on the field, giving the game my 100%, all thanks to my trainers & doctors,” wrote Raina.

“However, a nagging discomfort returned last couple of years. During the episodes of niggling pain, to avoid any impact on my game, my trainers kept me going & helped me a lot in training my muscles well so that it would take the load off of the knee.

“To be honest, a second knee surgery was a tough call to make because I knew it would put me off-action for a few months and I wasn’t ready for it until a few weeks ago when the pain had gotten a bit much and I knew there was only one way out of this. I hope I’m up on my feet, on the field and ready to give my best very soon again,” Suresh Rain wrote in a post on his social media handles,” Raina added.
