After Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore played out a thriller at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, April 27, Indian team head coach Ravi Shastri has expressed that we could potentially see a new champion emerge. Royal Challengers eventually won the match by one run continuing their brilliant show in this season so far.

With this win, RCB reclaimed the number one position on the IPL 2021 points table. They have now won five of their six matches in this tournament. Delhi Capitals, on the other hand, lost only their second match this season. They have four wins in six games as well. It is worth noting that neither of these two teams has won a single edition of the IPL.

While RCB has managed to make it to the final thrice (2009, 2011, and 2016), they haven’t had the privilege to win the title even once. Delhi Capitals ended being the runners-up last season and have carried on their good run since the 2019 season into this year’s IPL as well. Along with Punjab Kings, Delhi and Bangalore are the only two franchises that have not won an IPL title.

Ravi Shastri, in the morning after the match, posted a tweet in which he added a picture of Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant. He also wrote a caption that said that the match between Delhi and Bangalore has given hope for a new champion to emerge. “Brilliant game last night. Seeds being sowed for a potentially new winner to emerge #IPL2021,” the caption of the tweet read.

RCB prevail in a thriller against Delhi in Ahmedabad

Bangalore batted first in their first match at the Ahmedabad stadium. The pitch wasn’t as good as the one in Mumbai where batting seemed quite easy. The ball kept low but RCB yet managed an above-par total in their first innings. They scored 171 for 5, on the back of a fantastic knock of 75* runs by AB de Villiers.

In their run-chase, Delhi Capitals did all they could but ended up falling short by just one run. Rishabh Pant made 58* while Shimron Hetymer made 53* runs from just 25 balls. With these two teams are going quite strong in this tournament, there is a high chance that either of these two teams could end up winning the tournament.
