Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who recently went past Dale Steyn’s record of most wickets in a single season was ruled out of the Indian Premier League due to injury. Ashwin’s franchise, the Rising Pune Supergiant, is looking for a capable bowler to replace the highly rated Tamil Nadu man.

According to reports, captain Steve Smith is entitled to take a call whether he wants to replace Ashwin with Lyon but the Pune fans might well be wondering if the Australian bowler can live up to the expectations in these conditions.

“It could well be skipper Steve Smith’s call if he wants to replace the best Indian spinner with the best Australian spinner. If that happens, it will be interesting to see if Lyon has the same impact as Ashwin” the source said.

However, Ashwin is not the only player to be ruled out of the 10th season of the Indian Premier League. Indian skipper Virat Kohli will miss the early part and opening batsman KL Rahul is set to give the tournament a miss. There are chances of Kohli featuring in the tournament after the initial few matches but Rahul has been completely knocked out of the tournament.

Ravichandran Ashwin, who suffered a sports hernia at the end of the England series, would be expecting to get back to full fitness before the ICC champions trophy gets underway from June. Earlier, Mitchell Marsh also saw himself bow out of the IPL due to a shoulder injury with the Pune franchise confirming that Imran Tahir is going to replace him.

Nathan Lyon could be a good pick for the team as he performed pretty well in the recently concluded four-match series against the Indians. He picked up 5 wickets in an innings in the final Test at Dharamsala and is a regular member for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League.
