After becoming an extremely unpopular commodity in Pakistan, Ian Chappell has now had to the brunt of former skipper Shahid Afridi as well. The latter was the skipper of Pakistan until Pakistan’s terrible performance in the 2016 edition of the World T20 seemingly played on enemy territory.

After being stripped of the captaincy, Pakistan’s performances on the international stage improved quite a bit with them rising to the top position in the ICC World Rankings. However, some horrible performances, after all, that went on to ensure that the Pakistanis went 12 Tests without a win.

This saw a heavy amount of criticism drawn from the likes of Greg Chappell who brandished his style of straight talk as the Pakistanis certainly did not take well to what he said. Moreover, some of the former Aussie skipper’s comments also ceased to impress skipper Misbah-ul-Haq on the retirement option was also something that created a lot of anger in the mass media as well. Afridi showed one and all where his alliance was with a tweet following Pakistan’s win over Australia at the MCG.

Afridi’s Tweet read: “Shabash Pakistan, great captaincy and inns Hafeez, Well done JK, Malik, Did you watch Ian Chappell?”

Even Misbah-ul-Haq had earlier retorted to the statements made by Chappell. “The comments do not make any sense or suit a cricketer of his stature. Australia themselves have been on the losing side in the recent away tours. They were clean swept by a Sri Lanka side… In the recent past, they have been whitewashed by us in the UAE and in India.

“If we apply Chappell’s comments to Australia, does that mean if they continue to get whitewashed on the subcontinent on a regular basis then they should also not travel there?,” Misbah wrote in his column for cricket.com.au.
