Veteran Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi has expressed his desire to feature in the Big Bash League (BBL) on Monday. Afridi said that he had offers from BBL for the last few years, but he wasn’t able to accept the offer due to international commitments.

“I was offered to play Big Bash League in Australia almost every season in the last two or three years but I wasn’t able to take the offer due to my international commitments,” Afridi was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au. “But if I am offered it this year I’ll surely give it a go.”

Currently, the 36-year old is not considered by the selection panel for the tour to England. He said that he had talked to the selector Inzamam-ul-Haq about his availability. “I’ll be available for the national team whenever it needs me. In fact, before coming [to this interview] I spoke with the chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq and told him that it is good to have youngsters in the team but in case he needs me I will be available,” he said.

The power hitter believes that he still has got good 2 years of cricket in him and added that he is taking care of himself and working hard on his fitness.

“I am very focused on cricket and want to continue it. I am looking after myself very well and working hard on my fitness,” he remarked. “I still feel that I can play for the next couple of years whether it is for Pakistan or PSL [Pakistan Super League], Big Bash or England [domestic] T20s,” he signed-off.

Afridi is currently playing for Hampshire in England’s domestic T20 competition.
