Despite cross-border terrorism, India and Pakistan cricketers share great friendships off the field. The two do not play each other outside of ICC events, yet have the utmost respect for one another. Recently, former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi won hearts when he posed for a picture with Indian fans in Switzerland.

Not just that, he asked an Indian fan to hold the national flag properly. Out of the excitement of posing with Afridi, the Indian fan held the flag while it was folded. The picture was taken on the sidelines of the St. Moritz Ice Cricket Tournament.

Afridi worried about political tension in Indian Kashmir?

However, few weeks down that event, Afridi has landed himself in hot waters for a comment he has made on Indian occupied Kashmir. The comment hasn’t gone down well with his fans in India, including Bollywood lyricist-scriptwriter Javed Akhtar. The swashbuckling batsman tweeted a controversial message on the state of Kashmir in India.

He tweeted: “Appalling and worrisome situation ongoing in the Indian Occupied Kashmir. Innocents being shot down by oppressive regime to clamp voice of self-determination & independence. Wonder where is the @UN & other int bodies & why aren’t they making efforts to stop this bloodshed?”

Akhtar, who doesn’t shy away from expressing his thoughts on social media, tweeted back to Afridi saying that for peace in Kashmir, the Pakistani government needs to stop terrorism in the valley. In a tweet, he wrote: “Dear Afridi, since you want to see a peaceful JK sans any human rights violations could you please see to it that pak terrorists stop infiltrations n pak army stops supporting the separatists by closing down the training camps. It will greatly help in solving the problem.”

Gautam Gambhir criticizes Afridi

Captain of the Delhi Daredevils, Gautam Gambhir too joined the bandwagon, revealing that the media contacted him for his comment on Afridi’s tweet, which to him is as senseless as appealing for a wicket off a no-ball.

“Media called me for reaction on @SAfridiOfficial tweet on OUR Kashmir & @UN. What’s there to say? Afridi is only looking for @UN which in his retarded dictionary means “UNDER NINETEEN” his age bracket. Media can relax, @SAfridiOfficial is celebrating a dismissal off a no- ball!!!,” Gambhir wrote.
