Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that star all-rounder Shahid Afridi will be receiving appropriate farewell for his services for the country. PCB further confirmed that Shahid Afridi would be sent off along with Misbah-ul-Haq and Younus Khan after the conclusion of the Test Series against West Indies.

Shahid Afridi had a reputation of being fickle-minded in terms of his retirement from the international arena. But last month, Shahid Afridi finally put an end to his 21-year long illustrious career. The 36- year old already hung up his boots from Test format in 2010 and played his last ODI back in the 2015 World Cup. Finally, after coming on and off from retirement repeatedly, Shahid Afridi has called it quits from all format of the game.

The Pakistani stalwart, who made his debut way back in 1996 against Kenya at a young age of 16 years, has been one of the finest all-rounders ever produced. He held the reputation of being one of the most destructive batsmen in the world who in his own way changed the way the game was played during the 90’s and early 2000’s. Later on his career, his batting prowess tapered off as he transformed into one of the finest leg-spin bowlers hailing from Pakistan.

One of the legends of ODI cricket, he has played as many as 398 games and accumulated over 8,000 runs at an astounding strike rate of 117. He also held the record for the fastest century in ODI cricket for a long time which was recently broken by South African AB de Villiers. He also holds the record for most number of sixes in ODI with 351 sixes.

PCB executive committee chairman Najam Sethi, who is also the chief of PSL, took to social media and tweeted by saying “@iamusmanafridi_ @usmansatti93 @SAfridiOfficial The only hero is Lala @SAfridiOfficial. We just chatted and set up a time to meet and discuss a fitting Farewell!”. He further added,”Congrats @SAfridiOfficial on a new role as ICC Ambassador. Great honour. Love you Lala!”

It is only befitting to organise a farewell event for the Pakistan legend as his request for a farewell match was put down by the PCB. The Board defended the move by replying that there was no spot vacant for the allrounder.
