After the ouster of Pakistan from the first round of the 2015 World Cup, many thought the aura of Pakistan in limited overs cricket was over. They barely qualified amongst the top 8 teams to be a part of the 2017 Champions Trophy. Who knew this tournament would eventually go on to mark the beginning of a new era, under a proficient leader Sarfraz Ahmed.

Now it’s Shahid Afridi who has sung praises for the current skipper. The former Pakistani all-rounder lauded the wicketkeeper-batsman for his captaincy. Often referred to Boom Boom by his fans, Afridi felt that Sarfraz was the best choice for the captaincy in all the three format.

Best fit

“From what I see now, Sarfraz seems to be the best fit for captain in all three formats of the game,” Afridi was quoted as saying by PakPassion.

Shahid Afridi had earlier advised Sarfraz about the rigours of captaining in all the three formats. He stressed the need to be fit, both mentally and physically before undertaking the responsibility. He advised Sarfraz to continue the captaincy only if he could command the above-mentioned parameters.

“I recall advising Sarfraz that if he had trouble handling all three formats then he should look to just play ODIs and T20Is. However, if he felt he was mentally up to it and physically fit, and could handle the pressure brought on by captaincy in all three formats, then he should carry on and do his best for Pakistan,” he said.

Shahid is currently honouring his duties for Dhaka Dynamites in the Bangladesh Premier League. While the star all-rounder may have retired, he has continued to blaze his skills with both the bat and the ball. In a game against Sylhet Sixers, he displayed tremendous prowess picking four wickets and then scoring a quickfire 37 (15) with five sixes.
