Shakib Al Hasan has been going through a torrid time owing to a finger injury. He didn’t participate in Bangladesh’s erstwhile Test and T20I series against Sri Lanka. The all-rounder recently visited Thailand to consult doctors regarding his persistent injury. The injury sparked during the Final of the tri-nation series against Sri Lanka and has lately been a thorn in the flesh for Shakib.

However, he was appointed as the leader of the upcoming Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka. However, to Shakib’s agony, he is yet to recover and subsequently might miss the upcoming triangular T20I series featuring Sri Lanka and India. Debashish Chowdhury, the BCB doctor, mentioned that the all-rounder was asked to undergo physiotherapy in a recent media interaction.

The agony for Shakib

“The doctors in Bangkok said the same thing” Chowdhury was quoted as saying by the Daily Star. The doctor also iterated the assessment of his injury after the physiotherapy programme. “Shakib will arrive tomorrow and after a week of physiotherapy, his condition will be assessed,” he added. Akram Khan, the chairman of the BCB, also sounded doubtful about Shakib’s chances of inclusion.

The Bangladesh squad will leave for Sri Lanka on March 4 after a rigorous training camp on March 2. Bangladesh has slumped to defeats against Sri Lanka in the Test, T20I, and ODI series. The Lankans turned out to be too hot to handle and subsequently, the hosts were beaten black and blue. However, the team has the firepower to stage a comeback in the Nidahas Trophy.

They would have dearly wished for their skipper to participate in the series, however, chances are remote. The news comes as a body blow for Bangladesh as Shakib has been an indispensable element of the setup throughout his career. Bangladesh will play their opening game on March 8 at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
